What is Mundo?

Mundo is a language learning app that helps you learn by reading real news articles. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google or with email and password, we store your name and email address with your account. Google Sign-In also gives Firebase Authentication your Google profile photo URL. We do not copy that photo into our database: the profile field we store for an avatar is left empty. A guest session is an anonymous account with no name or email.

Learning data

We store your reading history, vocabulary bank, quiz scores, streaks, proficiency level, and language preferences. This data powers your personalized learning experience.

Usage data

We collect basic usage information such as articles read, time spent reading, and feature interactions to improve the app experience. Firebase Analytics records those product events. If you opt in to notifications, we store the device push token needed to deliver them.

Voice

The speaking feature is optional. In the Android and iOS apps, speech recognition runs through the device's recognizer. The app receives the transcript, not a saved recording. On the web, if the browser cannot recognize speech itself, the page records a short clip and sends it to our servers, which pass it to Google Gemini to produce a transcript. We do not store that audio.

Third-Party Services

Mundo uses the following third-party services:

• Google Firebase: authentication, database, hosting, and cloud functions
• Google Gemini AI: article translation, text analysis, and language explanations
• Google Cloud Translation API: quick word translations
• Stripe: payment processing for Pro and Max subscriptions bought on the web. We never store your card number. Stripe receives the purchase so it can charge the subscription. Older charges on a card statement may show the previous brand name EARNED APP.
• Google Play Billing: payment processing for Pro and Max subscriptions bought in the Android app. Google charges your Google account. Mundo stores whether the subscription is active so the app can unlock reading. We do not receive your card number. Manage or cancel the subscription in the Play Store.
• Apple In-App Purchase: payment processing for Pro and Max subscriptions made through the iOS app. Billing is handled by Apple and managed in your Apple ID account settings.
• RevenueCat: connects Play Billing and Apple In-App Purchase to your Mundo account using your account id, so a purchase unlocks the right profile.
• Firebase Analytics and Cloud Messaging: product analytics and push notifications you opt into. We do not use an advertising SDK or Crashlytics.

Each service processes data according to their own privacy policies.

Cookies & Local Storage

Mundo uses browser local storage to save your authentication session, app preferences (e.g., dismiss states, PWA install prompt), and offline data. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

Data Retention and deletion

Your learning data is retained as long as your account is active. Translation cache entries expire after 90 days. You can delete your account and the personal data stored with it from Settings inside the app, or from the public page at mundo.today/delete-account. Deletion removes your login, profile, learning data, push tokens, friend connections, and feedback that includes your email, and it cancels a web subscription billed by Stripe. It does not cancel a Google Play or App Store subscription; cancel those in the store or billing continues. We keep a deletion record with your account id, the time, and whether a store subscription still needed cancelling. That record does not include your name or email.

Your Rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time from the deletion page above or by contacting us. You can also sign out and stop using the app at any time.

Children

Mundo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
